CMS is seeking a Graduate Academic Assistant (GAA) to provide photography services during CMS events.
Term: November 2025 – May 2026, with possibility of renewal
Hours: approx. 17 hours on site + editing time
Compensation: $38.65-40.16/hour + benefits (rate depends on student level)
Scheduled event dates include (but are not limited to) November 3 (12:00-1:00 pm), November 12 (full day), and March 2, 2026 (12:00-1:30 pm). Availability on these dates is required.

Position Summary
The Centre for Migration Studies (CMS) is seeking a Graduate Academic Assistant (GAA) to provide photography services during CMS events, including headshots, public lectures, conferences, and workshops. The GAA will play a key role in documenting CMS events for communications, archival, and reporting purposes.

Work Performed
- Photograph CMS events (both candid and posed shots) in alignment with CMS’s communications needs.
- Capture high-quality images that reflect the atmosphere of events and highlight speakers, participants, and activities.
- Make sure consent is respected when photographing participants and maintain professional and respectful interactions with event participants.
- Authentically represent diversity and inclusion (beyond skin colour, avoiding stereotypes, and prioritizing respectful, accurate representation).
- Edit and deliver photos in a timely manner for use on CMS’s website, social media, and publications.
- Coordinate with CMS staff to understand specific photography requirements for each event.
- Be familiar with UBC’s photography guidelines.
Qualifications
- Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own.
- Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Experience in event photography and photo editing (please provide a portfolio or samples of work).
- Access to and proficiency with professional photography equipment.
- Strong time management and ability to deliver edited images promptly.
- Must be a registered UBC graduate student during the term of employment.
