CMS Workshop Award Competition Opens | Deadline: December 15, 2021

The UBC Centre for Migration Studies (CMS) will offer a limited number of Workshop Awards in 2021/2022 that are designed to serve as catalysts for new research collaborations and provide matching funds for SSHRC Connection Grants.

Conditions:

A maximum of $8,000 can be requested in matching funds for SSHRC Connection Grant applications submitted to SSHRC by the February 1, 2022 deadline. The resulting workshop and/or event must be hosted before February 28, 2023.

Grant award is contingent upon securing a SSHRC Connection grant and cannot be used as matching funding for other initiatives. The award can be used to support indirect research costs and the budget should abide by UBC Financial Expenditure Guidelines.

Eligibility:

Research teams must include at least two CMS faculty affiliates, preferably from different disciplines. At least one of the affiliates must be listed as PI or co-applicant on the SSHRC Connection application.

Instructions:

To apply, submit the following information as part of your expression of interest (EOI) to admin.migration@ubc.ca by 11:59 PM, December 15, 2021:

  1. Names and disciplines of all secured research team members (specifying those who are CMS affiliates)
  2. A 500-750 word summary of the proposed workshop and the research project that the workshop will support.
  3. A workshop budget along with a timeline for the workshop and grant application.

Further Information:

Applicants will be notified whether their proposal has been awarded by January 17, 2022. CMS will issue a letter of support outlining the funds committed before the February 1, 2022 SSHRC Connection deadline. Funds will be available after the results of the SSHRC Connection application are announced.

Depending on the applications received, we will be able to fund 1 – 3 proposals. Another workshop competition may occur in Spring 2022.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Sandra Schinnerl at admin.migration@ubc.ca.
