CMS Workshop Award Competition | Deadline: July 4, 2022

The UBC Centre for Migration Studies (CMS) in 2022/2023 will offer a limited number of Workshop Awards that are designed to serve as catalysts for new research collaborations and provide matching funds for SSHRC Connection Grants.

Conditions:

A maximum of $8,000 can be requested in matching funds for SSHRC Connection Grant applications submitted to SSHRC by the August 1, 2022 deadline. The resulting workshop and/or event must be hosted before May 10, 2023.

Grant award is contingent upon securing a SSHRC Connection grant and cannot be used as matching funding for other initiatives. The award can be used to support indirect research costs and the budget should abide by UBC Financial Expenditure Guidelines. All awards will be run through CMS and administered by CMS personnel.

Eligibility:

Research teams must include at least two CMS faculty affiliates, preferably from different disciplines. At least one of the affiliates must be listed as PI or co-applicant on the SSHRC Connection application.

Instructions:

To apply, submit the following information to admin.migration@ubc.ca by 11:59 PM, July 4, 2022:

  1. Names and disciplines of all secured research team members (specifying those who are CMS affiliates)
  2. A 500-700 word summary of the proposed workshop and the research project that the workshop will support
  3. A workshop budget along with a timeline for the workshop and grant application

Further Information:

Applicants will be notified whether their proposal has been awarded by July 8, 2022. CMS will issue a letter of support outlining the funds committed before the August 1, 2022 SSHRC Connection deadline. Funds will be available after the results of the SSHRC Connection application are announced.

Depending on the applications received, we will be able to fund 1 – 2 proposals.

In addition to the matching funds, CMS and its staff will provide support to run the event.
