I draw on my subject-position as a minority in Singapore for my research interest on ethnic minorities in democracies. I wrote my masters dissertation on the political representation of the Malay-Muslim community in Singapore. Now I am keen on exploring the issues tied to ethnic diversity and ethnic minorities in the other parts of Southeast Asia, such as multiculturalism, public policy, and migration. I am also interested in forms of political structures which positively or negatively affect ethnic minority political representation. Based on my experience doing research on digital societies at the Lee Kuan Yew Centre for Innovative Cities, I am also interested in the impact of technological development such as the Fourth Industrial Revolution on ethnic minorities.
