My dissertation project centers on the entangled histories of Jewish refugee migrations to Asia and the British colonial administrations of Hong Kong and Singapore between 1937 and 1941. It traces how Jewish refugees experienced their displacement, develop connections and networks with other refugees, and challenged colonial border regimes. It examines how European – specifically British – colonial policies aided, hindered, and denied the possibilities of refuge for displaced Jews.
