The Policy Group is focused on immigration, integration, multiculturalism, and citizenship. Among its objectives are deepening our understanding of New Canadians as possible veto players in elections, which may account for the relative moderation of the Canadian Conservative party. This electoral interest is part of our larger concern with, on one hand, the integration of immigrants into Canadian society and, on the other, the reaction of native-born persons to immigration and its entailments. Our work includes: leveraging existing data sources; original research on political attitudes and mobilization, including the extension of the right to vote in local elections on vote choice and turnout among resident non-citizens in Canada, the US and the UK;  and mixed-method research in collaboration with immigrant serving providing agencies.
