Dr. Kashif Raza awarded SSHRC Knowledge Synthesis Grant 2025

Congratulations to CMS affiliate Dr. Kashif Raza and Dr. Hassan Bashir (Carleton University) on receiving a 2025 SSHRC Knowledge Synthesis Grant!

Project: The intersection of international students, housing and higher education in Canada: Addressing policy gaps for effective governance.

This project will analyze gaps and incoherence in Canadian policies affecting international student intake, housing, and higher education, drawing on international comparisons to identify vulnerabilities and governance shortcomings, including questionable practices by private institutions and businesses. It will provide recommendations for more integrated, cross-sectoral governance models that promote equity, diversity, and social justice, informed by case studies from countries such as the UK and Australia. Within the context of the SSHRC Knowledge Synthesis Grant competition, the project addresses the “Governance” theme, particularly the subthemes “housing and infrastructure governance” and “past and future models of governance.”
