About
Eric de Roulet’s dissertation research investigates the roles of agency and subjectification in current students’ and recent graduates’ academic career planning, particularly in Taiwan. Through interviews and fieldwork, he has been analyzing how these students perceive pursuing further studies abroad as a means of coping with difficult socioeconomic circumstances and human security risks. By examining the experiences of prospective international graduate students, this project avoids the survivorship bias built into numerous studies of the experiences of those who have already moved to their destination country.
