About
In my research, I work with Afghan migrants of the Hazara community in Iran and Turkey. I look into how the legacy of historical persecution and violence in Afghanistan affects their migration trajectories, practices, and daily life. My focus now is the living and labour conditions of undocumented Hazara migrants in Turkey following the Taliban takeover in 2021. I follow them in their migration journeys from Afghanistan to Iran, Turkey, and eventually to Europe. Using ethnographic methods, I explore their narratives of displacement, mobility, and ‘illegality.’ My research areas are ‘irregular’ migration and labour, borders and ‘illegality,’ focusing on memory, refugee (political) subjectivity, and migration temporalities.
