About
I research displacement and housing in Cold War Hong Kong, focusing on informal squatter settlements in the first two postwar decades. I am interested in how different migrant communities (including civil war refugees, Southeast Asian migrants, and forcibly relocated villagers) interacted with each other in the urban margins to create new political cultures and networks. As such, I am interested in bridging the history of Cold War Hong Kong with critical refugee studies, diaspora/Sinophone studies, and colonial legal studies (particularly around borders and property).
