Maia graduated with an LLB (Bachelor of Laws) from the University of Sheffield specializing in European and International Law. She previously worked in global business immigration and has a background in legal community organization work with specific knowledge of governmental aid for refugees. Her work within universities includes running a legal clinic and creating collaborations to increase equitable access to higher education. She is active in a variety of anti-racism initiatives and is particularly interested in the implementation of public education and its influence on political behaviour related to race.
