Winnie Chironga

She/Her
Associate Director of Indigenous Relations & Community Development, AMSSA

About

I am the Associate Director of Indigenous Relations & Community Development at AMSSA, a provincial umbrella association that supports over 70 immigrant and newcomer-serving organizations across British Columbia. In this role, I lead AMSSA’s Indigenous Truth and Decolonization work under the guidance of our Indigenous Advisory Council and steward initiatives that foster equity, inclusion, and relationship-building between Indigenous communities and the settlement and integration sector. With a background in law and business, and a commitment to systems change, I bring both lived experience and strategic insight to the work of social justice. I am passionate about advancing community-informed approaches to decolonization and creating collaborative spaces that honour Indigenous knowledge systems and histories. As a community representative on the CMS Executive Committee, I see my role as bridging perspectives between academic inquiry and on-the-ground engagement. I aim to contribute a lens shaped by practice, care, and accountability, ensuring research and policy are grounded in lived realities and relationships.
