About
I am interested in early modern (14th-19th centuries) East Asian history with a focus on China, particularly the relationship between the Chinese diaspora and the formation of national as well as cultural identities. I use gazetteers, biographies, official and private sources to better understand the impact of Chinese diaspora during the period. I hope my research, along with other scholarships dedicated to the study of overseas people in East Asia during the early modern period, would inspire people to reflect upon similar (hi)stories of migration that the world has witnessed, such as Zainichi Koreans in Japan, and the larger Chinese diaspora across the world.
