Congratulations to CMS affiliate and doctoral student in Sociology, Capri Kong, on being awarded a Canada Graduate Research Scholarships – Doctoral (CGRS D).
The Canada Graduate Research Scholarships – Doctoral (CGRS D) are awarded through national competitions by the three Canadian federal granting agencies: the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).
The CGRS D program recognizes and promotes the next generation of outstanding Canadian researchers by providing support for a high-quality research training experience for awardees, enabling scholars to concentrate more fully on their doctoral studies and to contribute to the Canadian research ecosystem during and beyond the tenure of their awards.
Capri’s research proposal for this program is titled “Intercultural Friendships, Mutual Adaptation, and Attitudes toward Immigration in Canada.” She asks:
- How do intercultural friendships facilitate mutual adaptation and reshape cultural boundaries between immigrants and host populations in Canada?
- Additionally, how do these friendships influence attitudes toward immigration among both groups?
Her research aims to advance theoretical understanding of mutual adaptation and immigrant integration, empirically test contemporary assimilation theories, and provide policy-relevant insights to promote social cohesion and immigrant inclusion in Canada.
