The UBC Centre for Migration Studies is excited to announce the official launch of its new Graduate Certificate in Migration Studies, commencing in September 2024.

A Multi- and Interdisciplinary Training

Migration studies is a dynamic and multifaceted field that defies traditional disciplinary boundaries. To equip graduate students with a comprehensive understanding, the new certificate program offers a multi- and interdisciplinary approach. By encouraging students to explore courses outside their department, the program promotes cross-disciplinary perspectives, enriching their knowledge of migration studies. Embracing decolonizing approaches, the certificate program reflects CMS’s commitment to critical inquiry and diverse perspectives.

Advancing Career through Professional Development

Beyond academic enhancement, certificate students will also gain access to non-academic professional development opportunities. The core migration seminar, enriched with “Professional Studies in Migration” sessions, provides practical insights led by migration practitioners from various sectors. This professional development component ensures students are well-prepared for the dynamic job market in migration-related fields.

Developing an Inclusive, Engaged and Diverse Community

Fostering an inclusive, engaged, and interdisciplinary community is a cornerstone of the program. Within this nurturing environment, students receive support from the Centre Co-Directors, CMS staff, and peers across disciplines.
